Biochem/physiol Actions

In animals, lactic acid is a metabolic compound produced by proliferating cells and during anaerobic conditions such as strenuous exercise. Lactic acid can be oxidized back to pyruvate or converted to glucose via gluconeogenesis. Lactic acid is preferentially metabolized by neurons in several mammal species and during early brain development.

Other Notes

A concentrated solution of lactic acid is typically a mixture of lactic acid lactate and lactic acid. The concentration of this solution is approximately 90% (w/w).

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. Quelle est la concentration en mol/l de cette solution?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a neat or pure liquid with a density of 1.209 g/mL and a molecular weight of 90.08 g/mol. The purity of the material may range from 88.0 - 92.0%. The concentration of this product can be determined using the lot-specific purity reported in the Certificate of Analysis. The concentration may range from 11.8M (88.0%) to 12.3M (92.0%). Please see the link below to review a sample or lot-specific Certificate:

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/418/501/product-dating-information-06-25-mk.pdf

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. Hello For Lactic Acid (L6661-100ML), it says that its 90% concentrated (w/w). I'm trying to determine the molarity of the stock solution and am not sure how to proceed with this. Is this solution 0.9M because of the 90%? Any help is appreciated-Thanks!

    1 answer
    1. The molarity of this solution may be determined by applying the following formula:
      Density x w/w% x 1000 / Mw. Thus, 1.209 g/mL x 90% x 1000/ 90.08 g/mol = 12.08 M.
