Opis

General description

A synthetic zwitterionic detergent, which unlike other amphoteric surfactants, retains its zwitterionic character over a broad pH range (CMC: 330 mM). This property is attributed to both the presence of a strongly basic quaternary ammonium ion and an acidic sulfonate ion of equal strength. This ionic balance presumably prevents irreversible binding to either anionic or cationic compounds.

Application

• Use of a zwitterionic detergent for the restoration of the antibody binding capacity of immunoblotted Francisella tularensis lipopolysaccharide.: This study explores the application of Zwittergent 3-08 detergent in the restoration of antibody binding capacity to lipopolysaccharides of Francisella tularensis, enhancing the immunoblotting technique. This finding is significant for biochemical assays involving bacterial lipopolysaccharides (Fulop et al., 1992, DOI).
