The storage temperature recommendation for this specific product has been changed (Spring 2026). It has been found that storage at a controlled room temperature of 15-25°C is sufficient. We had recommended storage in a refrigerator in the past. While these test strips would not be harmed at all by storing them in a refrigerator at 2-8°C, it has been found that they are actually quite stable at room temperature. Until our existing inventory is turned over, labels on some of the Nitrate Test Strips being shipped may still provide the 2-8°C range.

Paski testowe MQuant® Nitrate mogą być używane do szybkiego i łatwego monitorowania wody pitnej, wody procesowej i ścieków, a także w wodzie akwariowej, gdzie limity mogą zostać szybko przekroczone. In the user guide it says that the nitrate test can be used for 'Food and animal fodder after appropriate sample pretreatment'. What sample treatment is appropriate for butter?

No butter-specific pretreatment protocol is documented for this product. Fodder is agricultural foodstuff, such as hay, silage, or sprouted grains, used specifically to feed domesticated livestock like cattle, sheep, and pigs. No validated pretreatment for butter is available in current sources.

Which reaction zone measures nitrates? What does presence of Nitrites means interms of nitrates?

For this product, the nitrate concentration is measured semi-quantitatively by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the fields of a color scale. Each strip features a second reaction zone, the color of which changes in the presence of nitrite ions. The second alert zone, labeled NO3- on the color card, measures nitrates. The presence of nitrite in the sample will cause a color change in this alert zone, indicating that nitrite is present. This is important because nitrite can interfere with the nitrate measurement.

How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.
