General description

A cell-permeable F-actin probe. This macrocyclic cyclodepsipeptide, isolated from the marine sponge Jaspis johnstoni, is a potent inducer of actin polymerization and stabilization in vitro. It competes with Phalloidin (Cat. No. 516640) for actin binding (Kd = 15 nM) and enhances apoptosis induced by interleukin 2 (IL-2) deprivation. Also displays fungicidal, insecticidal, and anticancer properties.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cell permeable: no
Kd = 15 nM for actin binding
Primary Target
F-actin
Product does not compete with ATP.
Reversible: no

Recent work suggests that Ras small GTPases interact with the anionic lipid phosphatidylserine (PS) in an isoform-specific manner, with direct implications for their biological functions. Studies on PS-Ras associations in cells, however, have relied on immuno-EM imaging of membrane sheets.
