General description

Anaerotest® strips are designed to indicate an anaerobic atmosphere via a color change on the test strip reaction zone. An anaerobic atmosphere favors the growth of anaerobic bacteria, and this strip can indicate the absence/presence of oxygen in the environment. The methylene blue dye in the absence of oxygen undergoes a chemical reduction reaction and turns colorless thereby, indicating a total anaerobic atmosphere. The reaction zone on the test strip returns to normal (blue color) upon re-introduction of oxygen in the environment.

Application

Anaerotest® strips are used to determine an anaerobic atmosphere. The absence or presence of oxygen is indicated by a color change in the reaction zone of the strip.

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. Are these strips reusable?

    1 answer
    1. Helpful?

  2. 파우치에 strip을 두개 넣었는데 하나는 파란색으로 ,하나는 하얗게 변했습니다. 그럼 어떻게 해석해야할까요?

    1 answer

So if one strip is colorless white and one is blue, it indicates that the chamber in not fully anaerobic. Check for a leak. This odd result invalidate the test, please retry with another strip.

      Helpful?

  3. Once the strip turns white in anaerobic conditions, if you place it in aerobic conditions, how long does it take for the strip to turn back to blue? In other words, is there a time delay between O2 exposure and the time the strip turns blue?

    1 answer
    1. The methylene blue dye on the strip undergoes a chemical reduction reaction in the absence of oxygen, turning colorless to indicate a total anaerobic atmosphere. The reaction zone on the test strip returns to normal (blue color) upon re-introduction of oxygen in the environment.

      Helpful?

  4. What is the limit of resudial Oxygen concetration in the Antmosphere to indicate the white colour. And what oxygen concetration makes it back to the blue colour. What are storage conditions of and expiry time of an opned bag of test strips.

    1 answer
    1. The anaerotest strips 1.32371.0001 have a detection limit close to 0.5% O2 in the atmosphere. It will change color when crossing that threshold.

      Helpful?

  5. Wie lange kann ich mit einem Streifen eine Umgebung monitoren? Wann muss der Streifen ausgetauscht werden?

    1 answer
    1. Reference 1.32371.0001 Anaerotest strip indicator has no validated maximum duration after activation. We know that the product works for the amount of time needed for its specific application: it will be able to revert color as long as day 5 after activation.

      Helpful?

  6. I placed a strip inside an anaerobic chamber to check O2 presence. It turned white in about 13 minutes, but after 16 hrs approximately, it turned back blue. I kept it there for another 24 hrs, and it turned white again. Is this normal?

    1 answer
    1. Anaerotest™ strips are designed to indicate an anaerobic atmosphere via a color change on the test strip reaction zone. The methylene blue dye in the absence of oxygen undergoes a chemical reduction reaction and turns colorless thereby, indicating a total anaerobic atmosphere. The reaction zone on the test strip returns to normal (blue color) upon re-introduction of oxygen in the environment. During the incubation, the aspect of the test strips could be regularly inspected to check if the anaerobic conditions are still met. If the test strips become blue again during incubation it could indicate a leak in the incubation jar.
