Yes, the Hemacolor reagents are suitable for use with samples anticoagulated with EDTA. If the sample is not anticoagulated, the smears must be made immediately upon the blood being drawn. These reagents are not suitable for use with samples anticoagulated with heparin or sodium citrate. Smears should be prepared from fresh samples when prepared from anticoagulated blood with EDTA.

Can products 1.11957 and 65044B-85 be used together in a procedure?
1 answer-
Products 111957-85 and 65044B-85 are each 4-liter containers of Hemacolor stain reagents. The 111957 is the blue stain reagent from set 111674, and the 65044B is the red stain reagent from set 65044-93. Upon closer examination of the stain procedures, it is revealed that there are differences in the staining procedure and how each reagent is formulated. Such a protocol is not documented. Mixing and matching reagents from different Hemacolor kits might not be as straightforward. While it is expected that the slides should stain properly, there is no documentation on file where reagents have been mixed and matched from two different kits. The procedures as published for each kit are known to work well, but whether mixing and matching reagents will yield acceptable staining is not documented. It would be safer to use the reagents listed for each kit and to follow the instructions as provided.
