Opis

General description

Calcitonin salmon is a 32-amino acid peptide used therapeutically to regulate calcium homeostasis in conditions such as osteoporosis and Paget′s disease. It exerts its effect by directly inhibiting osteoclast activity. The USP reference standard supports bioidentity testing and analytical method validation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hypocalcemic hormone produced by the parafollicular C cells of the thyroid or by the ultimobranchial bodies of nonmammalian vertebrates. Decreases blood calcium and phosphate due to inhibition of resorption by osteoblasts and osteocytes.
