Opis

General description

BAMBI (bone morphogenic protein and activin membrane-bound inhibitor) gene codes for a transmembrane glycoprotein which is a pseudo receptor belonging to the family of TGF-β (transforming growth factor β receptor) type I receptors.[1][2] BAMBI is predominantly expressed in placenta, spleen and kidney medulla and also found liver, prostate, gut and kidney cortex.[1]

This ELISA antibody pair detects Human BAMBI. Other species not yet determined.

Biochem/physiol Actions

BAMBI (bone morphogenic protein and activin membrane-bound inhibitor) acts as an inhibitor of TGF-β (transforming growth factor β receptor) signalling which causes epithelial-mesenchymal transition.[1] Upregulation of BAMBI gene is observed in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a number of cancer including thyroid, liver, colorectal cancer and ovarian cancer.[3][4] BAMBI might regulate the events of inflammation and remodeling processes.[3]
