Application

Dexamethasone has been used as a component of osteogenic differentiation medium.[1] It has also been used to study apoptosis, cell signaling pathways and gene expression.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Dexamethasone has immunosuppressant and antiemetic properties. It is used to treat postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). Dexamethasone plays an important role in cardiac transplant, sepsis, cancer and other pathologic disorders. It elevates the level of heat shock proteins. It is an anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid with a range of effects on cell survival, cell signaling and gene expression.
