General description

Enzymatically prepared tetrasaccharide which acts as a minimal binding ligand for E-selectins. SLex reduces injury following ischemia and reperfusion and immune complex-induced acute lung injury in animal models. In both of these models, SLex is presumed to act by blocking E-selectin-mediated neutrophil recruitment to sites of inflammation.

Questions

  1. Is this product appropriate for an in vitro e-selectin binding assay?

    1 answer
    1. This product is suitable for in vitro binding assays. It is advisable to consult peer-reviewed literature on in vitro binding assays between sialyl Lewis x and E-selectins specifically. Publications such as "Sialyl Lewisx Glycomimetics as E- and P-Selectin Antagonists Targeting Hyperinflammation," in ACS Med. Chem. Lett. (16)1, 64–71, indicate that catch bonds formed between selectins and sialyl Lewis x can affect binding affinity based on static versus dynamic environments. This effect may present challenges in accurately quantifying in vitro binding, depending on the nature of the binding assay. Therefore, in vivo studies might be important for a more accurate assessment of biological activity.
