General description

RNA from yeast is used in molecular biology laboratories as a carrier during nucleic acid purifications. When used at 10-20 μg/ml, the tRNA acts as a potent co-precipitant that allows for maximal RNA recovery (when working with limited samples).

Application

Ribonucleic acid from Torula utilis was used as a standard in ribonuclease activity assay of certain ribonuclease family members.[1] It was also used as a standard to determine RNA concentration by orcinol assay.[2]
Suitable for use in nucleic acid purifications.

    1. This is a fairly crude preparation. The product is not tested to determine the ratio of single versus double stranded RNA. It is likely that both forms are present.
