(±)-Nornicotin wird als unverdünnter Alkaloidstandard zum Aufzeigen der mechanistischen Rolle, die Stickoxide bei der Bildung von tabakspezifischen Nitrosaminen spielen, eingesetzt.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nornicotin ist ein aktiver Metabolit von Nikotin und ein nikotinerger Acetylcholinrezeptoragonist. Nornicotin ist ein geringfügig vorkommendes Alkaloid von Tabakblättern, das als Vorläufer des Karzinogens N-Nitrosonornicotin dient. Die N-Demethylierung von Nikotin erzeugt Nornicotin und tritt insbesondere während der Seneszenz und Trocknung von Tabakblättern auf.
