Calcein ist ein Calcium-abhängiges fluoreszierendes Molekül. Es wird hauptsächlich zur Untersuchung des Knochenstoffwechsels unter In-vivo-Bedingungen benötigt und hilft bei der Anfärbung des Grubenbereichs unter In-vitro-Bedingungen.[4] Calcein wird für die fluorometrische Bestimmung von Calcium und die EDTA- (Ethylendiamintetraessigsäure)-Titration von Calcium verwendet.[5]
