Altanserin hydrochloride hydrate has been used in the pretreatment of rat brain samples and as a non-radioactive control in the calibration curve preparation for quantifying ^[18F]altanserin in high-performance liquid chromatography.[1]

Altanserin hydrochloride hydrate is a specific 5-HT₂/serotonergic antagonist and has been used in a study to assess serotonin release capacity in the human brain.

The radioligand of altanserin, ^[18F]altanserin is useful as a positron emission tomography (PET)-radioligand for the visualization and quantification of serotonin_2A (5-HT_2A) receptors.[2]
