Acetyl-CoA dient der positiven Regulierung der Pyruvatcarboxylase-Aktivität. Acetyl-CoA ist ein Vorläufer des Neurotransmitters Acetylcholin. Histon-Acetylasen (HAT) verwenden Acetyl-CoA als Spender für die Acetylgruppe, die in den posttranslationalen Acetylierungsreaktionen von Histon- und Nicht-Histon-Proteinen verwendet wird.
