Application

Cloxacillin ist wirksam gegen Infektionen, die durch Penicillin-G-resistente Staphylokokken verursacht werden. Es wird in Studien über topische antibakterielle Wirkstoffe für Verbrennungs- und Quetschwunden verwendet.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cloxacillin ist ein halbsynthetisches Antibiotikum und ein chloriertes Derivat von Oxacillin. Es hemmt die letzte Stufe der bakteriellen Zellwandsynthese, indem es an Penicillin-bindende Proteine (PBPs) bindet, was zu einer Zelllyse führt. Die Zelllyse wird durch autolytische Enzyme der bakteriellen Zellwand vermittelt. Cloxacillin wird häufig als AmpC β-Lactamase-Inhibitor in Kombination mit β-Lactam-Antibiotika eingesetzt.
