General description

Calciumsalz der (6R,S)-Mischung von Diastereomeren von 5-Formyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrofolat.

Folinsäure, die auch als Calcium-Leucovorin bezeichnet wird, ist gewöhnlich als geruchloses amorphes Pulver erhältlich. Diese aktivierte Form von Vitamin B₉ ist cremefarben bis hellbeige. Folsäure (FA) ist ein wasserlösliches Vitamin. Folinsäure ist das 5-Formyl-Derivat der Tetrahydrofolsäure und die reduzierte Form von Folsäure.

Application

Calcium folinate offsets the effects of folic acid antagonists that act by binding dihydrofolate reductase and blocking the conversion of folic acid to tetrahydrofolate. In medicine, calcium folinate is used after treatment with methotrexate to reduce the toxicity of the methotrexate. Calcium folinate is also used to enhance the cytotoxic effect of 5-fluorouracil in the treatment of cancer.

Folinsäure-Calciumsalzhydrat wird bei der Herstellung von 1-%- und 2,5-%-Folinsäure-Salben zur äußeren Anwendung im Rahmen von Wundheilungsstudien verwendet. Es wird außerdem als Bestandteil des chemisch definierten Ovarial-Mediums des chinesischen Hamsters (CD-CHO) zur Kultivierung von CHO DUKX B11 verwendet.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folinsäure fungiert als Cofaktor und ist an Einkohlenstoff-Transferreaktionen beteiligt. Sie verbessert die Wundheilung bei Ratten. Folinsäure spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Verbesserung der sprachlichen Kommunikation von autistischen Kindern.
