General description

Sodium tetrathionate dihydrate is the dihydrate of sodium tetrathionate. It has been synthesized from sodium thiosulfate by iodine oxidation.[1] Its crystals exhibit monoclinic crystal system and space group C₂³-C2.

Application

Sodium tetrathionate dihydrate may be used to compose the 0.2M Tris buffer in a study.[2]

Other Notes

Thiosulfating agent; it reacts with thiols, e.g. cysteine to S-sulfo-thiols, used in the quantitative determination of total cysteine/cystine in proteins[3]; Reversible inactivation of enzymes[4]
