Giemsa solution has been used since the early 1900s for the diagnosis of malaria.
Below is a link to a paper from Benin that mentions the relationship between malaria and gout. Uric acid appears to be increased in both conditions. Product 48900 was introduced long before the malaria thick gout procedure was introduced. Since malaria is not endemic to North America or most parts of Europe, positive control slides for use in quality control testing are not available. Since product 48900 is not tested with blood infected with malarial parasites, it is not known how well the product would work for routine malaria identification or in the malaria thick gout method. It is the customer's responsibility to determine if solution 48900 is suitable for the malaria thick gout technique.

WITH WHICH BUFFER SHOULD I DILUTE GIEMSA SOLUTION
1 answer-
Giemsa solution protocols recommend diluting with either water or a phosphate buffer. Common phosphate buffers are Weise or Sorensen's phosphate buffer. Depending upon personal preference, the pH used can vary from a low pH of 6.0 to a high of 7.2 In North America it is more common to use a Sorensen's phosphate buffer with a pH ranging from 6.8 to 7.2. A suitable catalog number for a pH 7.2 buffer is P3288. In other parts of the world slightly more acidic phosphate buffers are preferred.

Hi does any lab use this stain for microscopy ( haematology) ? How is it working for you on fresh peripheral blood films ?
1 answer-
Giemsa solution is commonly used for hematology, histology, and parasitology labs. Peripheral blood smears and bone marrow smears are routinely stained in hematology labs. It is always preferred to use fresh peripheral blood smears or bone marrow smears when possible. The colors are more vibrant when the peripheral blood smears are stained fresh.

Is there a white paper available for buffer selection for Giemsa staining?
1 answer-
Generally, no white papers are available. Giemsa formulations vary in pH, typically ranging between pH 6.4 to 6.9. Quality standards for stained slides differ across institutions and individuals, with varying preferences for pH buffers.
