Synthetisches zwitterionisches Detergens, das im Gegensatz zu anderen amphoteren Tensiden seinen zwitterionischen Charakter über einen breiten pH-Bereich hinweg behält (CMC: 330 mM). Diese Eigenschaft ist auf die Gegenwart sowohl eines stark basischen quaternären Ammoniumions als auch eines sauren Sulfonations gleicher Stärke zurückzuführen. Es wird angenommen, dass dieses ionische Gleichgewicht eine irreversible Bindung an anionische oder kationische Verbindungen verhindert.
