Gene Information

human ... CALCA(796)

Application

Calcitonin human has been used as a positive control in in vivo study of HLA-A(*) 02.01 (HHD) mice injected with PTH-rP peptides.[1] The product has also be used as a test compound for studying the effects of calcitonin deficiency and calcitonin substitution on particle-induced osteolysis in Calca -/- mice.[2]
Calcitonin human has been used to study its ability to stimulate cAMP production post transfection in mammalian cell by activating human CALCRL (calcitonin receptor like receptor gene)- receptor activity-modifying protein 1 (RAMP1) and CTR (calcitonin receptor).[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Calcitonin, also referred to as thyrocalcitonin, is a 32 amino acid peptide hormone, which is present abundantly in seminal plasma compared to serum. It acts as a first messenger and hence regulates the the production of cAMP as well as mammalian sperm function. It also facilitates the regulation of different isoforms of adenylyl cyclase.[4]

Preparation Note

Calcitonin human dissolves in 1% acetic acid as well as in water at 1 mg/ml to yield a clear, colorless solution.

Other Notes

32 amino acid polypeptide, 8 of which are conserved across all species.
Lyophilized from 0.1% TFA in H2O
