General description

Alpha synuclein (SNCA) SNCA is a protein made up of 140 amino acids and is coded by 5 exons. It belongs to the synuclein family. SNCA gene is mapped to human chromosome 4q22.1.[1]

Application

α-Synuclein A30P human has been used to inject it stereotaxically into substantia nigra (SN) of mice to study its effects on meningeal lymphatic drainage and its association with Parkinson′s disease (PD).[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

A point mutation in the α-synuclein gene, Ala³⁰-Pro (A30P), linked to familial Parkinson′s disease.

Alpha synuclein (SNCA) is associated with Lewy bodies′ disease (LBD), Alzheimer′s disease (AD) and muscular system atrophy (MSA).[1]
