Questions

1–7 of 7 Questions
  1. How long is degradation time of Monothioglycerol (MTG)? In other words, how long can I save it at room temperature ?

    1 answer
    1. The recommended storage temperature for this material is 2-8°C. However, the product ships at ambient temperature. Refrigerated products that ship at ambient temperature are considered stable up to 2 weeks for transit time. Additional stability studies have not been conducted.

  2. After dilute with 0.1M with water How can we storage and how long can be stored?

    1 answer
    1. The solution stability of this product is not determined. Working solutions should be prepared fresh daily.

      Helpful?

  3. how long is this product stable if stored at room temperature?

    1 answer
    1. This product is assigned a retest date of 6 years from the date of quality release. In order to assure maximum qualtiy, the recommended storage temperature is 2 - 8 °C. However, several identical products available under other brands, such as 108703 or 88640, are stored at ambient temperature. The estimated shelf life of these items ranges from 1 - 2 years, when properly sealed and handled.

  4. How long is degradation time of Monothioglycerol (MTG)? In other words, how long can I save it in the refrigerator?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not assigned an expiration date. It is assigned a recommended retest date of 5 years after the quality release date. It will be stable at 2 - 8 °C during this period if not contaminated and securely closed.

A recommended retest date is the period during which the product is expected to remain within established stability specifications, provided that it has been stored under defined conditions. After the Retest Date, product samples should be examined to ensure that the product is still in compliance with the established specifications.
For more information, you may access the "Product Dating Information" document under "ADDITIONAL USEFUL DOCUMENTS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS" at the bottom of the Quality Services page with this link: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/life-science/quality-and-regulatory-management/quality-services.

  5. What is the concentration of the 1-thioglycerol?

    1 answer
    1. The liquid is not a solution of 1-thioglycerol in some solvent. Rather, it is a neat liquid (i.e., essentially pure 1-thioglycerol). Based on a density of 1.245 g/mL and a molecular weight of 108.2 g/mole, one can calculate an effective molarity of 11.5 M. This information may be found on the M1753 product information sheet.

  6. How does the storage temperature relate to shipping conditions?

    1 answer
    1. The storage conditions that a Sigma-Aldrich catalog and label recommend for products are deliberately conservative. For many products, long-term storage at low temperatures will increase the time during which they are expected to remain in specification and therefore are labeled accordingly. Where short-term storage, shipping time frame, or exposure to conditions other than those recommended for long-term storage will not affect product quality, Sigma-Aldrich will ship at ambient temperature. The products sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than their recommended long-term storage are shipped on wet or dry ice. Ambient temperature shipping helps to control shipping costs for our customers. At any time, our customers can request wet- or dry-ice shipment, but the special handling is at customer expense if our product history indicates that the product is stable for regular shipment.
