Beschreibung

General description

Casein is a calcium phosphate-binding phosphoprotein present in mammalian milk. It constitutes about 80% of the total bovine milk. Bovine milk is made of four types of casein such as, αs1-, αs2-, β-, and κ-caseins.

Application

Casein from bovine milk has been used as a component of normal medium for Drosophila culture , in the preparation of αS1-casein (CAS1_Bovin) , as a source of nitrogen (N) in experiment diets .

Biochem/physiol Actions

Partielle gastrointestinale Verdauung von Casein ist eine Fundgrube für bioaktive Peptide, wie z.B. β-Casomorphin. Allerdings reagiert Rindercasein nicht einheitlich; während die Varianten A1 und B zur Produktion von β-Casomorphin führen, ist es bei Variante A2 nicht der Fall.

Numerous experimental applications including use as a blocking agent in immunochemistry, recovery of enzyme activity from SDS extracted samples, and as a substrate for protease and kinase assays.
