General description

superparamagnetische Polystyrolpartikel
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles embedded in polymer/polystyrene microspheres (magnetic beads) are useful for cell separation and labelling. It may also be useful in tissue repair, magnetic resonance imaging contrast enhancement, hyperthermia, immunoassay, detoxification of biological fluids, drug delivery.

Application

Micro particles based on polystyrene, magnetic has been used to deposit polyelectrolytes (PE), poly(allylamine hydrochloride), and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PAH/PSS) onto negatively charged magnetic polystyrene (PS) microparticles, to prepare PE-functionalized microparticles, for the fabrication of a biohybrid algal microswimmer toward biomedical applications.

    1. The 1 µm polystyrene-based magnetic particles (estd. material density 2.2 g/mL), the calculated particle number is 4.3x10^10 per 1 ml of the 5 % w/v aqueous suspension.
      The particles consist of a porous polystyrene matrix, the pores of which are filled with nanoparticulate iron oxide rendering it paramagnetic.
      To prevent leakage of iron oxide to the surrounding medium, the bead surface is sealed by a carboxyl polymer. However, these COOH-groups are not accessible for any ligands and are not suited for coupling reactions of sorts. For the latter purpose, we keep a series of additionally COOH-functionalized types.
