Colecalciferol is a fat soluble vitamin, which participates in the calcium and phosphate metabolism. It is sourced either through the diet or by exposing skin to ultraviolet rays. Oral administration of vitamin D₃ is readily absorbed and is stored in adipose tissue.

Application

Colecalciferol BP Reference standard, intended for use in laboratory tests only as specifically prescribed in the British Pharmacopoeia.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vitamin D agiert durch einen Rezeptor, der ein Mitglied der ligandenabhängigen Transkriptionsfaktor-Obergruppe ist. Es moduliert das Wachstum und die Differenzierung von normalen Zellen und Krebszellen. Hat wachstums- und Metastasenbildungs-hemmende Effekte auf Brust-, Dickdarm- und Prostatakrebszellen. Aktivierte Vitamin D-Rezeptoren in Darm- und Knochenzellen halten die Calciumabsorption und die Homöostasie aufrecht.

Vitamin D wirkt durch einen Rezeptor, der die Proliferation und Differenzierung von normalen und von Krebszellen moduliert.
