General description

Acetyl carnitine is one of the major acylcarnitines produced during the transport of long-chain fatty acids in the body.

Application

O-Acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride may be used as a precursor for the preparation of O-Acetyl-L-carnitine, which in turn may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in biological samples by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HILIC-MS/MS) technique.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Endogener mitochondrialer Metabolit, der Acetylgruppen durch die Mitochondrienmembran transportiert. Exogenes Acetylcarnitin erhöht die mitochondriale Funktion bei alten Ratten. Als Acetatdonor von Coenzym A erhöht es die zentrale und periphäre Acetylcholinsynthese und -funktion. Acetylcarnitin hat eine antinociceptive Wirkung, die möglicherweise durch erhöhte Aktivität von muscarinischen cholinergenen Rezeptoren oder mGlu2 Glutamatrezeptoren hervorgerufen wird.
