General description

Monodisperse polystyrene based micro particles (size: 0.1 μm) are a particle size standard, ideal for characterizing particle size distribution (PSD) of test samples.

Application

Used to calibrate, qualify and monitor the performance of particle size analyzers, surface scanning instruments and particle counters.
Monodisperse polystyrene latex particles can also be used to:
  • investigate their impact on freshwater algae
  • study their influence on the toxicity of triphenyltin (TPT) to the marine diatom phytoplankton species
  • profile their interaction with cyanobacteria in marine and freshwater environments

Features and Benefits

  • suitable for routine instrument calibration checks, testing and corrections
  • available in 5 mL and 10 mL pack sizes as neat samples

Analysis Note

  • Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie (TEM)
  • Rasterelektronenmikroskopie
  • Lichtmikroskopie
  • Coulter Zähler mit MDF-System
Die Kalibrierung der Geräte wird anhand der NIST- bzw. BCR-Standards hinsichtlich der Partikelgröße durchgeführt.

Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. What is the composition/information on the ingredients of the aqueous suspension?

    1 answer
    1. The complete composition of this product is considered proprietary. However, this aqueous dispersion is stabilized by the addition of an anionic surfactant.

      Helpful?

  4. If I would like dilute the concentration of this solution what solvent can I dilute it with?

    1 answer
    1. Product 90517 can be further diluted in water with added sodium dodecyl sulfate to prevent aggregation.

      Helpful?

  5. What will be the amount of polystyrene in milligrams of 5 ml of .1 micrometer polystyrene solution

    1 answer
    1. This product is prepared as a 2 % suspension (2 g/100mL) of 0.1 µm polystyrene particles. The 5 mL package size will contain approximately 100 mg of the polystyrene particles.
