nonselective for Enterobacter spp., nonselective for Escherichia coli, nonselective for Proteus spp., nonselective for Salmonella spp., nonselective for Staphylococcus spp., nonselective for bacteria (General Media), nonselective for coliforms, nonselective for enterobacteriaceae

Application

Tryptone water is primarily used for the cultivation and maintenance of fastidious aerobic and facultative microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas species.
A liquid medium for the detection of indole-forming microorganisms due to its high content of tryptophan, it is more reliable than peptone water for this purpose.

Preparation Note

Add 15 g to 1 litre of distilled water. Mix well, distribute into final containers and sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.

Other Notes

Direct plating method for enumeration of E. coli in water[1]
We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs.
The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.

A H Havelaar et al.
The Journal of applied bacteriology, 64(1), 89-98 (1988-01-01)
The direct plating (DP) method for enumerating Escherichia coli in food was adapted for water analysis by membrane filtration and a standardized protocol was described. The DP method was found to give equal or better recoveries of E. coli than
