General description

Benzylamine, a primary amine, can be used as a fluorescence derivatization agent for the sensitive and selective determination of analytes by chromatography techniques coupled with fluorescence detection.[1]

Application

Benzylamine may be used as a derivatization agent to increase the sensitivity of 5-hydroxyindoles, catecholamines and catechols in biological samples prior to their determination using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with fluorescence detection.[1]

A highly selective and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of 5-hydroxyindoles and catechols (serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and related compounds) by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection is described. The method is based on the two-step precolumn derivatization of 5-hydroxyindoles
