General description

Die MacConey-Bouillon fördert das Wachstum der meisten gramnegativen Bakterien, wogegen das Vorhandensein von Gallensalzen das Wachstum von grampositiven Bakterien hemmt. Die Farbe des Mediums schlägt aufgrund des Abbaus von Lactose zu Säure durch die Bakterien von violett zu gelb um. Die Veränderung des pH-Werts wird durch den pH-Indikator Bromkresolpurpur angezeigt, der im Vergleich zu Neutralrot eine geringere Hemmung aufweist.

Application

MacConey-Bouillon eignet sich zur Sterilitätsprüfung von pharmazeutischen Produkten. Es wurde für die Anreicherung von Enterobacteriaceae und den Nachweis von Escherichia coli konzipiert.
