General description
Hühner übertragen große Mengen IgY (IgG) an den Eidotter und das Entnehmen von Antikörpern aus Eiern eliminiert die Notwendigkeit für eine invasive Blutentnahme. Die Eiermenge von einer Woche kann die zehnfache Menge Antikörper enthalten als das durch eine Woche Blutentnahme gewonnene Blut von Kaninchen.
Jedoch gibt es einige Nachteile, wenn bestimmte Antikörper aus Hühnern in Immunassays verwendet werden. Hühner-IgY fixiert die Säugetierkomplementkomponente C1 nicht und agiert unter Verwendung von Standardlösungen nicht als fällender Antikörper.
