General description

Fucoidan is a fucose-rich, sulfated polysaccharide isolated from several species of brown seaweed.

Application

Fucoidan from Fucus vesiculosus has been to:
  • study the application of heparin red in detecting fucoidan
  • study its bioactivity as an antimicrobial agent
  • study its effects on advanced glycation end-products

Biochem/physiol Actions

Studies of fucoidan have found it to have a broad variety of biological activities including antitumor and antiangogenic activities, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, antithrombotic, and antioxidant activities. Fucoidan induces macrophage activation with subsequently activates mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and results in natural killer cell proliferation. Fucoidan acts as a nonselective selectin blocker and has been shown to induce apoptosis and suppress angiogenesis.

Fucoidans, sulfated polysaccharides extracted from brown algae, are marine products with the potential to modulate bone formation and vascularization processes. The bioactivity and safety of fucoidans are highly associated with their chemical structure, which may vary with algae species and

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. What is the monosaccharide composition of this fucoidan? How much is fucose relative to glucuronic acid, mannose, galactose and xylose?

    1 answer
    1. The monosaccharide profile of this material has not been investigated. This Fucoidan product is from Fucus vesiculosus. Please see the link below to review a publication that may be helpful:

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. CAN YOU PLEASE PROVIDE ME THE FUCOIDAN (FOOD GRADE) COA ??? I DONT HAVE ANY BATCH OR LOT NUMBER OF PRODUCT

    1 answer
    1. This product is not considered Food Grade, it is intended for research use only. Unless otherwise stated this product is intended for research use only and is not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
