Questions

1–10 of 14 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. iam master student , want to study drag reduction in water pipeline by using bio-polymer , i want Sodium Alginate like the above but: with high molecule weight ( million Da) , and tell me if its rigid or flexible( M/G=?) , and must be pure.. thank you

    1 answer
    1. The molecular weight and M/G ratio are not tested for this sodium alginate. Generally, the molecular weight for sodium alginate with a viscosity over 2000 (2% solution) is over 50,000 Da, and the M/G ratio is about 65:35. Most alginic acid materials have a molecular weight of approximately 100 - 200 kDa, but this range is not guaranteed.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. what is the viscosity?

    1 answer
    1. As listed in the 'PROPERTIES' section, the viscosity is ?2,000 cP. The exact value is listed on the lot specific Certificate of Analysis. Please navigate to the DOCUMENTATION section of the Product Detail Page to access a Certificate under ‘Certificate of Analysis’: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/product/sigma/a2033#product-documentation

  5. A2033 제품의 밀도를 알고 싶습니다 정확한 값까지는 아니어도 추정치 만이라도 알고 싶습니다

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the density of this product is not determined internally. However, various external sources state that Sodium Alginate has a density of 1.0 g/cm3(Temp: 25 °C).

  6. What is the average molecular weight of this product?

    1 answer
    1. The Molecular Weight of this product is approximately 200,000 daltons.

  7. What is the purity and the loss on drying of the product A2033? Additionally, what is the ash content?

    1 answer
    1. The purity and loss on drying are not tested for alginic acid. Please see the link below to review the testing and specifications for this product: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/specification-sheets/235/361/A2033-BULK________SIGMA____.pdf

  8. How to sterilization this product without properties interference?

    1 answer
    1. Solutions may be filter-sterilized or autoclaved prior to the addition of cations (required for gelation). Note that extended autoclave times may be detrimental to bead formation.

      Helpful?

  9. Does this product create a low or high stiffness gel?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not tested for gelation or gel strength. Alginate forms a gel in the presence of cations. Typically CaCl2 is used to initiate gel formation. Increasing the concentration of calcium will result in a more firm gel. Calcium chloride may be added at a range of 0.1M to 0.5M, with gel strength increasing with the CaCl2 concentration.

      Helpful?

  10. What is the ratio of mannuronic acid to guluronic acid in this product (A2033)?

    1 answer
    1. The A2033 has a mannuronic acid to guluronic acid ratio of approximately 1.56. The mannuronic acid range is 60-70 % and guluronic acid range is 30-40 %.
