El peroxinitrito (ONOO−) exhibe actividad bactericida.[3] Promueve la muerte celular y contribuye al proceso de transducción de señales, la función mitocondrial y la vía apoptótica. La formación de peroxinitrito se ha asociado con el desarrollo de diversas enfermedades, entre ellas, enfermedades vasculares, lesión isquemia-reperfusión, choque circulatorio, inflamación, dolor y neurodegeneración.[1]
