General description

TERGITOL TMN 10, a heterogeneous non-ionic amphiphilic surfactant has a hydrophobic moiety of 2,6,8-trimethyl-4-nonanol and a hydrophilic side chain of polyoxyethylene glycol with an average of 10 ethylene oxide units. This alkyl-substituted surfactant is soluble in water and most polar organic solvents.[1]

Application

  • Decomposition of non-ionic surfactant Tergitol TMN-10 by the Fenton process in the presence of iron oxide nanoparticles.: This study explores the degradation of Tergitol TMN-10 using the Fenton process, enhanced by iron oxide nanoparticles, highlighting its potential for environmental remediation strategies (Kos et al., 2014).

  • Application of nonionic polyoxyethylene detergents in studies of phosphatidylinositol kinase.: This research investigates the utility of nonionic polyoxyethylene detergents, such as Tergitol TMN-10, in enzymatic studies, specifically focusing on phosphatidylinositol kinase activity, which is crucial for understanding cellular signaling mechanisms (Ganong and Lu, 1989).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tergitol series surfactants are polyethoxylated secondary alcohols[1] that can be used as foam-controlling agents.

Features and Benefits

  • Suitable for use as a high-temperature penetrant & dispersant
  • High hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) emulsifier
  • Features narrow gel range
  • Biodegradable[1]
