α-Chloralose has been used as anesthetic in surgical preparations.

Biochem/physiol Actions

α-Chloralose is used as an immobilizing agent. It is mostly used in studies, which involves autonomic reflexes. α-Chloralose is a sedative hypnotic. It has high significance as anesthetic for laboratory animals.

    1. This product is tested for solubility at 10mg/mL in ethanol. This solvent would not be the preferred solvent for use in animal models. This compound is not tested for in vivo use, but is a commonly utilized drug in animal studies. The following reference may be useful for this application:
