Biochem/physiol Actions

SBA is not blood group specific but has an affinity for N-acetyl-D-galactosamine.

Preparation Note

Purified by affinity chromatography.

Analysis Note

Agglutination activity is expressed in μg/ml and is determined from serial dilutions in phosphate buffered saline, pH 6.8, of a 1 mg per mL solution. This activity is the lowest concentration to agglutinate a 2% suspension of human blood group A erythrocytes after 1 hr incubation at 25 °C.

Questions

  1. Can you please tell me whether this lectin still has its high-mannose N-glycans? I want to use it as a source of high mannose for a detection assay that I am developing.

    1 answer
    1. Lectins from Glycine Max (soy bean) are not considered high mannose sources. Please see the link below to review the Lectin selection table. Those sources considered to be high mannose are from Galanthus nivalis, Canavalia ensiformis (jack bean, ConA), and Artocarpus heterophyllus (jackfruit).
