General description

A β-galactosidase preparation produced by submerged fermentation of a selected strain of the yeast Kluyveromyces lactis.

Application

β-galactosidases from different species, including Kluyveromyces lactis and Kluyveromyces fragilis[1], hydrolyze lactose.

Biochem/physiol Actions

β-galactosidase cleaves lactose into its monosaccharide components, glucose and galactose. It also catalyzes the transglycosylation of glucose into allolactose, the inducer of β-galactosidase, in a feedback loop[2].

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. hi, what is the concentration of the enzyme solution? 2600 units/g is this enzyme's specific activity. This preparation is a solution, what is the actual concentration of the enzyme? Thanks.

    1 answer
    1. The supplier, Novozymes, does not determine the protein concentration (in mg Protein/ml) of this enzyme in the final product. The activity is given in units per weight of the solution, and the density of the solution usually runs around 1.2 g/mL.

  2. What are the long term storage conditions required for Beta - galactosidase enzyme? And how long can it be stored?

    1 answer
    1. The recommended storage temperature of this material is 2-8°C. This product is quite stable and is not assigned an expiration or retest date. Products that are not assigned an expiration or retest date are covered by a warranty period of 1 year from the date of product shipment.
