The specific method used to test this material for protease activity is considered proprietary. However, it is based on the enzymatic cleavage of FITC-Casein. See the link below to review the FITC-Casein Enzymatic Assay to demonstrate the principle of this method.

General description
- Protein quantitation (as a standard)
- Immunochemistry (as a blocking agent)
- Cell culture (as a nutrient)
This particular BSA is specifically evaluated and tested to have very low protease content / for protease-free status. Protease-free BSA may be used in applications like:
- Enzyme assays
- Protein-based assays
- Protease-sensitive techniques that include:
b) Nucleic acid hybridization
c) Radioimmunoassay (RIA)
Application
Biochem/physiol Actions
Features and Benefits
- Heat shock fractionated
- Protease-free
- Essentially globulin-free

Is Product A3059, Albumin from bovine serum (BSA), acetylated to inactivate nucleases?
1 answer-
A3059 is not acetylated. We do not test for the presence of nucleases. Acetylated BSA products would be B2518 or B8894.

Is Product A3059, Albumin from bovine serum (BSA), suitable for use as a blocking agent in immunoblotting?
1 answer-
We have not tested A3059 for specific use in immunoblotting as a blocking agent, in quality control. However, A3059 is considered to be essentially gamma-globulin free, which makes this more potentially useful in blotting experiments, by reducing a potential source of background. The Technical Bulletin states that "Globulin free albumins are suitable for use in applications where no other proteins should be present".

What is the fatty acid content of Product A3059, Albumin from bovine serum (BSA)? Can it be considered fatty acid free?
1 answer-
The fatty acid content of A3059 is not tested in quality control, and it is not reported on our Certificate of Analysis. We would not refer to this product as "fatty acid free".
