The storage conditions that a Sigma-Aldrich catalog and label recommend for products are deliberately conservative. The products sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than their recommended long-term storage are shipped on wet or dry ice. Ambient temperature shipping helps to control shipping costs for our customers. At any time, our customers can request wet- or dry-ice shipment, but the special handling is at customer expense if our product history indicates that the product is stable for regular shipment.

How do I dissolve lidocaine free base (Product No. L7757)?

The product is soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene, chloroform and oils, according to the chemicals encyclopedia published by the Royal Society of Chemistry , 14th ed. online (2006). Lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate (Product No. L5647) is soluble in water. Since the lidocaine hydrochloride is so much more soluble than lidocaine free base, lowering the pH to that of the hydrochloride (pH 4.0-5.5) or to that of injectable forms (pH 5.0-7.0) should greatly enhance the solubility of L7757.
