The twist off cap retains some of the insulin, both on the sides of the screw top and inside the cap top. This meant that it was very difficult to recover 100% of the mass that we purchased. In a 50mg bottle, we only recovered 37mg. This impeded research capabilities and makes the product more expensive than advertised.

Application
Insulin from porcine pancreas has been used:
- for culturing of the primary tumors obtained from mice and porcine preantral follicles[1][2]
- to characterize hormones involved in postnatal chicken preadipocyte differentiation in vitro[3]
- to check the reduction ability of the Escherichia coli thiol disulfide exchange proteins (DsbA, DsbC, DsbG) towards insulin[4]
Biochem/physiol Actions
Regulates the cellular uptake, utilization, and storage of glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids and inhibits the breakdown of glycogen, protein, and fat.
Two-chain polypeptide hormone produced by the β-cells of pancreatic islets. Its molecular weight is ~5800 Da. The α and β chains are joined by two interchain disulfide bonds. The α chain contains an intrachain disulfide bond. Insulin regulates the cellular uptake, utilization, and storage of glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids and inhibits the breakdown of glycogen, protein, and fat.
