Általános leírás

Myoglobin is a heme-related, low-molecular-weight protein. It is mainly found in cardiac and skeletal muscle.[1]

Alkalmazás

Myoglobin from human heart has been used as a negative control in monitoring isoAsp formation during storage.[2] It has also been used as an antigen in the study to identify self-antigens recognized by serum autoantibodies from unimmunized mice strains.[3]
Myoglobin from human heart was used to study the interactions of a platinum (II) 9-aminoacridine complex with proteins and oligonucleotides by ESI-TOF MS.[4] It was also used in the evaluation of plasma myoglobin using the Stratus CS fluorometer.[5]

Biokémiai/fiziológiai hatások

Myoglobin may help to increase diffusion and also stores O2 in oxidative muscle.[6] It can momentarily act as an oxygen reservoir to supply oxygen when there is inadequate blood oxygen delivery at the time of intense muscular activity.[7]
