Descripción general

El ácido gálico, también conocido como ácido 3,4,5-trihidroxibenzoico, es un compuesto polihidroxifenólico natural que se encuentra comúnmente en muchas frutas y plantas, como las uvas, el té y la corteza de roble, ya sea en forma de ácido libre o esterificado como galotaninos y elagitaninos. La investigación existente sugiere que este metabolito de origen vegetal es un astringente, un inhibidor de la ciclooxigenasa-2 (COX-2) y la histona acetiltransferasa, así como un inductor de la apoptosis con diversas actividades biológicas. Estas actividades abarcan efectos antioxidantes, antifúngicos, gastroprotectores, neuroprotectores, cardioprotectores, antimicrobianos, antiinflamatorios, antitumorales, antitirosinasas y antineoplásicos.

Aplicación

El ácido gálico es un producto natural de origen vegetal que encuentra aplicación en quimiotecas de cribado, y en investigación en metabolómica, fitoquímica y bioquímica.
El ácido gálico se ha utilizado:
  • como patrón para la cuantificación de fenólicos extraíbles por calibración externa
  • como patrón para determinar el contenido total de taninos en el polvo de raíz de roble utilizando el método de Folin-Ciocalteu
  • como ácido fenólico para estudiar in vitro sus actividades antivíricas, antibacterianas, citotóxicas y antifúngicas

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

El ácido gálico es un ácido fenólico hidrosoluble presente en las uvas y en las hojas de muchas plantas. Los ésteres del ácido gálico, como los taninos, los galatos de catequina y los galatos alifáticos son potentes antioxidantes in vitro. Sin embargo, el propio ácido gálico también parece tener actividad antioxidante, antineoplásica y antiangiogénica in vitro.

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.   2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
