General description

Human serum-derived IgM may be used as a reference antigen, standard, blocking agent, or coating protein in a variety of immunoassays including ELISA, dot immunobinding, Western immunoblotting, immunodiffusion, and immunoelectrophoresis. Other applications include starting materials for the preparation of immunogens and solid phase immunoadsorbents.
Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies appear early in the course of infections. IgM antibodies are responsible for agglutination of red blood cells in mis-matched blood transfusions. The level of IgM may vary with the status of disease or infection.
IgM antibodies are present as pentamers in the serum and are produced in response to antigens
Anti-Human IgM (μ-chain specific) antibody is specific for human IgM with mu chain. The antibody preparation is specific for human IgM when tested against purified human IgA, IgG, IgM, Bence Jones κ and Bence Jones λ myeloma proteins.

Application

Anti-Human IgM (μ-chain specific) antibody is suitable for Ouchterlony double diffusion and quantitative precipitin assay. It was used in B-cell receptor cross-linking studies, AuBioDOT assays, ELISA, protein purification and gel blot analysis.
Goat polyclonal Anti-Human IgM (μ-chain specific) antibody may be used to identify and quantitate the level of human IgM in vitro and in human serum or other biological fluids by immunochemical or immunohistological techniques.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Goat polyclonal Anti-Human IgM (μ-chain specific) antibody reacts with the m-chain of human IgM. It is specific for human IgM when tested against purified human IgA, IgG, IgM, Bence Jones kappa and Bence Jones lambda myeloma proteins.

Lyophilized from 0.01 M sodium phosphate, 0.015 M sodium chloride, pH 7.2

Preparation Note

Reconstitute with 0.135 M sodium chloride.

    1. Specificity for the m-chain of human IgM is determined by Ouchterlony Double Diffusion (ODD). The antibody preparation is specific for human IgM when tested against purified human IgA, IgG, IgM, Bence Jones kappa, and Bence Jones lambda myeloma proteins. Identity and purity of the antibody is established by immunoelectrophoresis (IEP). Electrophoresis of the antibody preparation followed by diffusion versus antigoat IgG and anti-goat whole serum result in single arcs of precipitation. One milligram of affinity isolated antigen specific antibody will react with 0.5-5.0 mg of human IgM as determined by single radial immunodiffusion.
