General description

Micro Particles or Latex Beads, commonly known as polystyrene microparticles, are negatively charged colloidal particles. The microparticles are produced through a polymerization reaction of styrene under controlled conditions. The conducive environment of the reaction induces spontaneous coalescent bead formation. Micro Particles or Latex beads are supplied in aqueous solutions composed of polymer particles with water. Polystyrene′s refractive index at 589 nm is 1.5905 and 1.602 at 486 nm.

Application

Micro Particles or Latex Beads is used for a wide variety of applications like:
  • Electron Microscopy.
  • Cell Counter Calibration.
  • Immunodiagnostics, especially for latex agglutination tests, and
  • Phagocytosis Research.

Analysis Note

For every lot exact values of particle size and standard deviation are determined with an accuracy of 0.01 μm using a Coulter Multisizer.

Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. Is there any information on the pH of the micro particle in the solution?

    1 answer
    1. The pH of this product has not been investigated.

      Helpful?

  2. Hello! Could you please provide the molecular weight (g/mol) of these particles?

    1 answer
    1. The molecular weight for this product is not determined.

      Helpful?

  3. Hi, Are these particles suitable to create a template layer for coating?? I am looking for something easy to remove, so non-functionalized and non-crosslinked Thanks for helping

    1 answer
    1. Polystyrene latex beads, often used as templates in material science, are versatile spheres that can be coated for various applications. These particles possess a negative charge and have residual sulfate end groups as a result of the manufacturing process. This is not considered to be a functional group as would a carboxyl-, aldehyde-, or amine-functionalized product.

      Helpful?

  4. Could you please let me know if your microparticle solutions have a known concentration expressed in particles per liter (particles/L)?

    1 answer
    1. For this and other micro particles/latex beads products, only the nominal particle diameter and solid content are reported. Concentration expressed as articles per liter is not reported.

  5. When measured by UV-vis, at what absorption peak does this bead appear?

    1 answer
    1. The product was not test using the UV-vis system. Therefore, the data are not available.

      Helpful?

  6. Are the microparticles in a suspension sterile? Or is it possible to sterilize the suspension?

    1 answer
    1. The polystyrene microparticles offered for sale are not sterile.
Although autoclaving is a common method of sterilization, polystyrene microparticles are not autoclavable. Filter sterilization is also not a practical method. There are no available protocols for sterilizing polystyrene microparticles. From the remaining methods for sterilization, it should be possible to sterilize in 70% ethanol for 30 minutes and then rinse away the ethanol with sterile water. For small batches, UV radiation would be another option.

      Helpful?

  7. What kind of surface modification are performed on these particles?

    1 answer
    1. These particles possess a negative charge and have residual sulfate end groups as a result of the manufacturing process. This is not considered to be a functional group as would a carboxyl-, aldehyde-, or amine-functionalized product.

  8. Tween 20과 같은 분산제가 함께 첨가되었는지 문의드립니다.

    1 answer
    1. Micro Particles or Latex beads are supplied in aqueous solutions composed of polymer particles with water. No surfactant has been added.
