Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. What is degradation rate of this product?

    1 answer
    1. This product is stable if kept as a powder in the freezer. It falls under our general warranty, which is one year from date of shipment. It is a biodegradable polymer, but the degradation rate when it is used depends on many parameters, such as the pH and temperature of the surroundings, as well as the accessibility of the polymer (e.g., whether encapsulated or not).

  2. Can this product (P1941) form a hydrogel?

    1 answer
    1. The molecular weight of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) significantly influences its properties, including the ability to form hydrogels. Generally, lower molecular weight PLGA materials (around 5,000 to 20,000 g/mol) tend to form hydrogels more readily compared to higher molecular weight counterparts. This is because lower molecular weight PLGA has a higher chain mobility, which facilitates the formation of physical or chemical crosslinks necessary for hydrogel formation. It may be more suitable to use product 805726 or P2191, which are not only a lower molecular weight but also a higher proportion of glycolic acid. This makes for a more hydrophilic polymer, thus enhancing water absorption and swelling properties, making it more suitable for hydrogel applications.

  3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. Is this product (P1941) acid terminated or ester terminated?

    1 answer
    1. The product is ester terminated.

  5. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  6. What is solubility information of plga 75:25

    1 answer
    1. The solubility of this product is not determined. However, various sources state that Poly(D, L-lactide-co-glycolide) is soluble in organic solvents such as methylene chloride, tetrahydrofuran, ethyl acetate, acetone, chloroform, and hexafluoroisopropanol. The concentration has not been determined for these solvents.
