Application

Hydrocortisone has been used in epithelial and endothelial adherent cell culture applications. Hydrocortisone solution has been used for the isolation of epidermal stem cells and cell expansion.[1] It has also been used for keratinocyte permeability assay.[2]

Dear Madam/Sir, I hope you’re doing well. I am reaching out to ask about the composition of the cortisol solution at a concentration of 50uM. Could you confirm whether the cortisol is dissolved in water, ethanol, or another solvent? Thank you

  This product is 50 um Hydrocortisone solution prepared in saline. Ethanol is used to solubilize during preparation. The final ethanol concentration is approximately 0.2%.

How long is this product stable in cell culture medium (e.g. DMEM) at 4°C, or just 4°C in general?

  The stability of this product after being diluted in medium, has not been evaluated. However, various medium products that are supplemented with Hydrocortisone, are stable for up to 6 weeks when stored refrigerated. As an example, see product C-20011, Keratinocyte Growth Medium, at the link below:

Is it suitable to further dilute small quantities of Product H6909, Hydrocortisone solution, in phosphate-buffered saline to prepare lower concentration aliquots?

  It is not recommended to further dilute H6909, Hydrocortisone solution, for storage purposes as stability/integrity of more dilute forms cannot be guaranteed.

Is there ethanol in Product No. H6909, Hydrocortisone solution?

  Hydrocortisone is initially solubilized in ethanol and then diluted in normal saline. The final concentration of ethanol is 2 ml/L (0.2% v/v).
