General description

Cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP) is a microbicide which inactivates sexually transmitted disease (STD) pathogens like HIV-1.[1] CAP has been used for enteric film coating of tablets and capsules.[2]

Application

CAP is used as a stabiling agent in the preparation of Pseudolatex.[3]

Questions

  1. What solvent is recommended for Product 22192 for use in enteric coating capsules?

    1 answer
    1. CAP is compatible with most water-soluble and insoluble plasticizers, with diethyl phthalate (DEP), tributyl citrate (TBC), triethyl citrate (TEC), tributyrin, and triacetin being the most used, typically in the range of 25 – 35% by weight of dry polymer. Acetone-methanol or aqueous dispersion may also work for this purpose.
