C24 Ceramide (d18:1/24:0) has been used:
  • in the generation of small unilamellar vesicles[2]
  • as an internal standard in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for ceramide quantification from rat samples[3]
  • to test its effect on mitochondrial stress response in worms[4]

C24 ceramide induces mitochondrial stress response.[3] Its levels are depleted in coronary artery disease (CAD).[5] However, elevated ceramide levels is observed in Alzheimerโ€ฒs disease.[6] C24 is synthesized during stress. It mediates spontaneous neutrophil death.[7]
